Does Bromelain help with osteoarthiritis?

March 30, 2022 by J. TheorinLeave a Comment

Bromelain helps osteoarthritis

Bromelain, a phytochemical from pineapples, is believed to have therapeutic potential for a variety of conditions, including osteoarthritis. However, studies have been mixed. In addition to knee pain, it has been reported to improve psychological well-being and chronic rhinosinusitis. In a study published in Med Hypotheses, Felton GE and colleagues found that bromelain reduced swelling, stiffness, and pain in patients with osteoarthritis.

While bromelain may help ease joint pain, it may interfere with some prescription medications. Unlike many natural remedies, it can increase the body’s ability to absorb antibiotics. Moreover, it can also increase the sedative effects of a number of herbal supplements, such as ginseng and ibogaine. Always talk with your physician before using any supplement or herbal remedy. It’s important to know how bromelain affects your health before using it to manage osteoarthritis.

Because bromelain is used in many of the best natural joint supplements on sale today, it is worth considering how effective this natural compound is for the treatment of osteoarthritis joint pain. Several manufacturers of joint supplements have claimed that their products can help with arthritis, including osteoarthritis, and their stacks often contain bromelain. So, does this ingredient work for serious joint conditions like arthritis?

In this article, we’ll look at bromelain and how it affects joint pain ssociated with osteoarthritis. If you have experience using bromelain to treat arthritis joint pain, please share your experiences in the comments section at the end.

Does Bromelain really work for joint pain?

In one double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, bromelain was used as a single-treatment for patients with osteoarthritis of the knee. Previous research had suggested that bromelain can improve joint inflammation. Although this study did not show any significant differences, it suggests that bromelain is equal to conventional medication in treating joint pain. The results also suggest that bromelain may be safe and effective for osteoarthritis.

The study of bromelain and osteoarthritis was conducted in humans. It involved ten placebo-controlled trials in 28 patients with moderate-to-severe osteoarthritis of the knee. In addition to osteoarthritis, it also helped patients with rheumatoid arthritis, urinary tract infections, and sinus conditions. In fact, a pineapple-based cream containing bromelain can alleviate rashes and burns.

Bromelain has been used as a single-treatment for osteoarthritis of the knee. Its use in this way was compared to the effects of conventional medication as well as with other natural joint supplements like selenium. While bromelain can significantly reduce the pain and stiffness of osteoarthritis, it is unlikely to be as effective in reducing pain and reducing symptoms as standard medication. The results were contradictory. The studies were not powered enough to identify any side effects of bromelain, but it was clear that it does not affect the overall outcome.

Is Bromelain good for arthritis pain?

In a recent study, researchers showed that bromelain could help reduce inflammation and painkiller use in patients with osteoarthritis. In addition to arthritis, it had anti-inflammatory effects and reportedly eased the pain of nasal and foot surgery. In a third study, Bromelain improved leukocyte expression in patients with respiratory and digestive issues. Its anti-inflammatory effects were further enhanced by enteric-coated bromelain.

Bromelain was first discovered to reduce pain and improve joint function in 1964. Several clinical trials tested different concentrations and combinations of enzymes in the compound. The researchers concluded that it was effective in relieving pain and improving joint function in patients with osteoarthritis. In addition to osteoarthritis, it also helped patients with sinus infections and those recovering from sinus surgery. It was even proven to be effective for ulcers and burns.

Among studies, Cirelli MG and Goldman J assessed bromelain’s benefits for edema, inflammation, and bone pain. In rheumatoid arthritis, Cohen A and Goldman J investigated the effectiveness of Bromelain in a clinical trial. In the same study, another group of physicians examined the effects of the enzyme on inflammatory markers in rheumatoid arthritis.

Further research on the anti-inflammatory properties of bromelain in osteoarthritis-related knees is needed before the product can be recommended. Currently, there are ten studies on the effects of bromelain on amoxicillin levels in the body. In these studies, the substance increased the amoxicillin concentration in tissue and serum. Similarly, it reduced the levels of amoxicillin in bone tissues.

The effectiveness of bromelain in osteoarthritis is still in question, but some research has shown that bromelain can help the condition, though the results are mixed. It is believed to contain anti-inflammatory compounds that can help the body fight arthritis. In addition, studies have shown that bromelain can reduce inflammation and relieve soreness in aching muscles. Aside from being effective in treating osteoarthritis, it can also reduce the symptoms of psoriasis, a disease commonly associated with the hip.

The only major dietary source of bromelain is pineapple, which contains less than 2% of the substance. In comparison to supplements, eating pineapple may not provide an adequate dose to alleviate the symptoms of osteoarthritis. While it is not as effective as bromelain, the extract obtained from the core of the pineapple has been shown to be effective in fighting inflammation. Therefore, it is essential to take a balanced diet that contains plenty of antioxidants and a healthy amount of the phytonutrient.
