Linköping University

The Department of Biomedical Engineering at Linköping University is a Swedish national center for research and education in Biomedical Engineering and Medical Informatics. The research is motivated by the requirements in healthcare and takes place in close collaboration with the biomedical industry and hospital clinics.

The research areas include electronic healthcare records, terminology systems and ontologies, decision support systems, data mining, home health care and image processing. openEHR and SNOMED CT are of special interest for the research. A research method used by the department is to build open source prototype software tools for tests and evaluations of new research findings. The recent most well known tool is the LiU Archetype Editor for openEHR archetypes. Another tool is a visualization and navigation browser for SNOMED CT.
